Ethereum Foundation seeks social media manager amid criticism

The Ethereum Foundation is hiring a social media manager, a move that follows growing community criticism regarding its perceived disconnect from Ethereum’s user base.

The full-time, remote role will focus on managing the foundation’s social media presence across platforms like X, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The new hire will be responsible for amplifying Ethereum ecosystem updates and organizing campaigns to engage contributors.

Josh Stark, a long-time Ethereum Foundation member, announced the job opening on X on Feb. 20,, signaling an effort to address community concerns.

“We’re putting together a team. Come be part of it, as a social media manager at the @ethereumfndn,” Stark wrote in his post.

The listing requires deep Ethereum knowledge, strong writing skills, and experience managing high-profile accounts with over 10,000 followers, underscoring the foundation’s need for an experienced blockchain communicator.

    Role targets community outreach

This hiring comes amid ongoing community tensions, particularly regarding the foundation’s recent ETH sales. Last month, crypto.news reported the foundation sold 200 ETH (worth $672,000) in early 2025, sparking outrage among users like @WazzCrypto on X, who argued the sales erode trust and should fund developers or staking instead.

The backlash has reinforced perceptions that the Ethereum Foundation is out of touch, a sentiment the new role aims to address by improving engagement and transparency.

Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, defended the sales on X the same day, per crypto.news, citing regulatory pressures and risks of contentious hard forks. He acknowledged community frustration but emphasized the foundation’s focus on long-term sustainability, urging better engagement.

These controversies highlight the need for improved communication, which the social media manager’s role targets.
