HYPE price falls 5% despite $1.36B in buybacks: Can it reclaim $85?

HYPE price has fallen nearly 5% to around $81.20 over the past 24 hours despite Hyperliquid’s Assistance Fund having spent $1.36 billion buying more than 48 million tokens.

    Summary

    • Hyperliquid’s Assistance Fund has purchased more than 48 million HYPE through its ongoing buyback program.
    • HYPE traded near $81.20, while 24-hour trading volume increased more than 59% to $931.56 million.
    • The daily chart places Supertrend support at $80.26, with MACD remaining below its signal line.
    • USDC reserve income has added nearly $14.58 million to the fund’s trading-fee-funded purchases.

Hyperliquid News reported on Oct. 13 that the Assistance Fund’s cumulative purchases had exceeded 48 million HYPE, acquired for approximately $1.36 billion. The tracker valued the accumulated tokens at about $3.95 billion at its reporting price.

Against that buying activity, the market figures accompanying the update placed HYPE near $81.20, with a 24-hour trading range of $79.52 to $85.73. Trading volume reached approximately $931.56 million, increasing more than 59% over the same period.

On KuCoin’s daily HYPE/USDT chart, TradingView recorded a similar price of $81.197. The chart showed an Oct. 13 high of $83.410 and a low of $79.496, placing the token close to its green Supertrend line after retreating from its late-September peak.

HYPE price holds above $80.26 as momentum weakens

TradingView’s daily chart places the Supertrend indicator at $80.261, roughly $0.94 below the recorded price. Although the session’s low briefly crossed beneath the line, HYPE subsequently traded above it, leaving the indicator’s bullish signal in place.

HYPE daily chart shows price near $81.20, above Supertrend support at $80.26, with bearish MACD momentum after a pullback from $98.

Across the same chart, the candles show a decline from a late-September peak near $98 and a sequence of lower highs into October. The recorded price of $81.197 sits approximately 17% below that peak.

The daily MACD presents a weaker momentum reading. TradingView shows the MACD line at −0.674, below the signal line at 0.700, with the histogram at −1.373. The negative histogram and downward movement in both lines support a bearish reading of the daily momentum indicator.

Based on the visible daily price structure, a recovery toward $85 would first require HYPE to move above the session high of $83.41. Recent candles around $85 identify another potential resistance area, followed by trading clusters around $88–$90.

Further up the chart, previous highs place another resistance zone around $94–$98. Those levels come from earlier price activity rather than an analyst’s forecast.

On the downside, the chart places the closest support references at the $80.26 Supertrend line and the session low near $79.50. A daily close below both would weaken the bullish Supertrend setup, with September lows around $75–$77 providing the next visible price reference.

Hyperliquid buybacks draw funding from fees and USDC reserves

Hyperliquid’s official fee documentation states that the Assistance Fund automatically converts its share of trading fees into HYPE through the network’s execution system. The documentation also says HYPE held in the fund is burned, permanently removing those tokens from circulating and total supply.

Under the documented arrangement, fees support several community mechanisms, including the Assistance Fund, the Hyperliquidity Provider vault and market deployers. Hyperliquid allows spot and certain perpetual-market deployers to retain part of the fees generated by their markets.

As crypto.news previously reported, Hyperliquid activated its AQAv2 framework for USDC on Aug. 26. The arrangement sends approximately 90% of cost-adjusted reserve yield to the protocol, adding income from stablecoin balances to the fund’s trading-fee revenue.

According to Hyperliquid’s framework, Coinbase serves as the USDC treasury deployer, while Circle handles technical functions such as minting, redemption, and cross-chain transfers. Revenue accumulates over 30-day periods before an automatic transfer eight days after each period ends.

Hyperliquid’s published framework makes payments dependent on reserve balances, yields, and operating costs, rather than setting a fixed annual contribution.

Revenue growth accompanies a separate institutional token deal

In September, a report on Hyperliquid’s 2026 protocol revenue ranking detailed CoinGecko’s calculation of $429.04 million in revenue from Jan. 1 through Sep. 15.

CoinGecko placed Hyperliquid first in its adjusted comparison, accounting for 12.62% of a $3.40 billion revenue pool. Pump.fun ranked second with $322.21 million, leaving Hyperliquid ahead by more than $106 million at the study’s cutoff.

Separately, Oct. 8 coverage detailed a 3.75 million HYPE transaction after Hyperliquid Labs completed a seven-day unstaking process. Onchain Lens linked the allocation, then valued near $330 million, to an institutional over-the-counter agreement.

According to the tracker, 1.875 million HYPE initially moved through five wallets, each receiving 375,000 tokens. Subsequent Lookonchain tracking showed 1.25 million HYPE returning to staking, with the remaining tokens held across two addresses.

Onchain Lens described the arrangement as a private transaction rather than an open-market sale. Hyperliquid Strategies CEO David Schamis later said his company was not the buyer.

U.S. investors have HYPE exposure through listed funds

For American investors, May 15 coverage of U.S. Hyperliquid investment products detailed 21Shares’ THYP spot product and TXXH leveraged fund.

According to the asset manager’s announcement, THYP provides HYPE exposure and incorporates staking, while TXXH offers a separate leveraged strategy.

The launch documents described THYP as a Securities Act of 1933 product rather than an investment company registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. In its disclosures, 21Shares stated that THYP investors do not receive the same protections available under traditional 1940 Act ETFs and mutual funds; TXXH was registered under the 1940 Act.
